The Benefits of a Car Alarm System

In this day and age taking every precaution to protect your vehicle and property is a prudent measure. Crime can affect anyone when you least expect it. A car alarm is a simple device that sends a message to the potential thief that there is a high likelihood that someone will be alerted if they attempt to perpetrate the crime. In the case of protecting personal valuables, an auto alarm is a cost effective measure to safeguard your property. Thieves by their very nature will always choose an easier target. The act of installing an alarm increases the likelihood that your vehicle won't be chosen if other easier alternatives are available. The following article outlines some additional benefits of installing a car alarm system.

One of the biggest costs of owing a vehicle is the annual insurance bill. When doing the initial shopping for an insurance provider most people will select the company that offers the best cover for the best price. Insurance premiums are generally tailored to fit the make and model of the vehicle. If you own a vehicle that has been factory fitted with either an alarm or an immobilizer then the insurance provider usually factors in these considerations when setting your premium. If, however, you own an older vehicle the insurance provider may not have factored in the alarm. Installing an alarm or immobilizer can result in a reduction in your insurance premium. With the cost of car alarms now affordable to every driver, the cost of installation is more than offset by the reduction in the insurance costs over the lifetime of the vehicle.

In the unfortunate event that your vehicle is stolen, having an auto alarm installed with a tracking device can result in the quick recovery of the vehicle. Many advanced alarms come with tracking functionality which the thief is unaware of. The transmitter located within the alarm casing emits a beacon that can be tracked through specialized software. GPS capability is often part and parcel of this process. The law enforcement officials are able to quickly locate the position of the vehicle for quick recovery. This functionality is a good idea for both personal and corporate vehicles.

In the case of advanced car alarms, the alarm is often connected to the end user via a mobile phone interface. This functionality allows the car owner to exercise some degree of control over the vehicle from a remote distance. In the event that the car is stolen, the car owner can immobilize the vehicle by sending a kill signal to the vehicle. This will result in the vehicle becoming unresponsive to driver commands in a stationary situation.

For maximum vehicle protection a car alarm makes economic and security sense. Nobody wants the inconvenience or potential expense associated with vehicle theft. By installing an alarm you at least put your best foot forward to protect yourself from a potential unfortunate situation.

Get Ready Prior To Vehicle Shipping

As the customer is interested to make auto transport in the state, they can contact the shipping company available in the market. More number of companies is coming forward to offer the services to the people required. When clients decided to transit the vehicles from one place to another, appropriate preparation should be made by the customer for the motor. Prior to shipment of motors, certain factors are to be considered for preparing to move. Most of the shipping companies will make prior inspection before they make shipment of vehicle. This is so because in some cases the vehicles may get damaged before they transmitted. The customer is advised to prepare vehicle for shipment with following requirements
• Making inspection of motors enables the customer to know whether the vehicle is damaged before transit or not. Carefully inspect the vehicles you are moving for transit. Check whether all parts of the auto are inspected from the top to the bottom.
• Make sure that the auto transmitted is operable at working condition or not. Generally, most of companies will carry the vehicles either at operable or non operable working condition. As per the requirement of the customer, they can choose the type of shipping.
• Incase if your vehicle carries any damages, please inform to the auto shipper that the vehicles is at such condition. It enables both the shipper and customer to be on safer side.
• Remove all customized accessories like spoilers, lights, mirrors and alarms from the car before making transit. When the customized accessories are removed from the car, it enables the customer to remain hassle free.
• Make sure that the tank for the motor is not completed fully. So, better don't fill the tank completely at the time of shipment and incase if it carries fuel, remove completely from tank.
• Check the tires carefully before making shipment. Test the tires whether they are good condition or not. Spare parts are the important requirement of automobile, so if feels more important remove from the vehicle and inform it to the mover. Remove the gas filled and apply cover to protect the car against damages.

Cleaning Car Stains

Your car is susceptible to stains because of all the eating and drinking done there. You have to pay special attention to avoiding spills. It is best not to eat in the car, but sometimes that is unavoidable.
If your car upholstery is leather, then it is easier to clean and will not be bothered by stains or mold. However, if you have a car that has cloth upholstery, then you have to learn different cleaning techniques to keep your car cleaner.
If the stain is ink related, never rub it because that will only make the stain get larger and harder to clean. To begin, blot the ink stained area, then use hairspray on the stain (only a small amount) and then let it stay for a few minutes. Use a clean white towel to dry the area. Repeat this as much as you need to. You can also use rubbing alcohol to clean the ink from your car upholstery. However, instead of using a cloth, use a cotton swap and dip it in the rubbing alcohol and then apply to stained ink area. After that you should use a clean cloth to wipe it off.
From time to time, you may get lipstick on your car upholstery if you are woman driver or carry women passengers. You can use white toothpaste that does not have gel on the area and then wipe it off with a damp cloth.
For extreme cases of battery acid staining your car upholstery, you can use baking soda and water on the spot immediately to remove it. Leave that on for about two hours or more and then wipe it with damp, but clean cloth. Repeat this method if after two hours the stain is still there. If you still see the stain, you can use commercial car upholstery cleaner to remove it entirely.
You can create your own cleaning solution for your car upholstery by mixing a half-teaspoon of dishwashing liquid detergent into a quarter cup of warm water. Use a mixer to beat the solution until there are a lot of suds. Use the soapy suds to clean the upholstery. Use some clear water to rinse it off and then let it dry thoroughly.
With children, comes the dreaded task for cleaning crayon marks on your car upholstery. This can be removed by first scraping any excess crayon marks with a dull knife or spoon. Spray the area with WD40 and let it stay for a few minutes. Use a small brush to scrub the stain and then wipe the area with a clean paper towel. If it has not been removed, you can repeat the process over again.

Electric Scooters - Save the Planet and Save Money? Yes!

Electric scooters are a fairly new arrival to the market, and are quickly becoming the ride of choice. The first reason is the ultra low running cost as compared to a car, and even to a gas powered scooter. Secondly -it is 100% pollution free, and very easy to maneuver even in tight traffic jams. As an added bonus, many find that when traveling within the downtown areas, it is actually faster than driving a car!
Q. How do I find the best one for me? A. Reviews, Reviews, Reviews ...
There's the manufacturer's review, and then there's the consumer reviews. The manufacturer review is best for learning features and benefits of each model. Of course each manufacturer will be biased towards their own product. So we look to the end user who has purchased and is currently driving the electric scooter, to find out about value for our dollar, durability, ease of maintenance, and performance, - most notably battery life between charges, and hill performance.
If you are going to have hills to contend with, it would appear that a 500 watt model is the way to go. There are more powerful models as well. Check with your local Highway Patrol or Department of Transportation for information on local regulations before buying your scooter. Each area has limits on top speed and power ratings.
A customer review is the best way to quickly find out about the performance of an electric scooter that will best suit your particular needs. When reading a review, look for outstanding benefits and also problems the owner may have faced. Avoiding a problematic model or brand will save you time and money.
Getting value for your money
As a potential customer it is your personal responsibility to obtain as much information as you can before you put your money down. Avoid purchasing an electric scooter that does not have available reviews or info on it. Unfortunately, like in everything else, you get what you pay for. It is best to buy a brand name with good warranties from a company with a solid past and a long firm future. It is possible to find a scooter that will run well when new, yet because of the way the unit draws power, if built cheaply, it can soon cause damage to the battery and the motor.
The good, the bad, the ugly
To be on the safe side and ensure a long lasting product, you are best to buy from a company that has been around and backs their products. This includes: Razor Electric scooter, MSBL sports, Schwinn, and Xtreme electric scooters who all have a larger presence and are more likely to back their product than a no-name brand product. My best advice is find the oldest dealers in your city and go in to look at what they have, and find out what makes a good long lasting unit that you can count on for years to come. Ask about warranties and service packages.
Apart from these, there are many small brands of electric scooters selling on the Internet. Some are very inexpensive. If you are planning to buy one read carefully the features and exactly what you get when you buy the unit. Whenever possible have a test ride from someone who is already using an electric scooter, this can save you valuable time and money too.

Driving and Safety Features Set Mustang Breed Apart

Whether it is driving pleasure or safety measures under consideration, the 2008 Ford Mustang will always be a breed apart. The 2008 Mustang engines - the 4.0L V6 and the 4.6L V8 - are both dynamic breeds that will surely satiate every driver's thirst for more and more power. The V6 packs 210 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. torque, while the V8 lugs 300 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. torque. Both come with standard 5-speed manual transmission or optional 5-speed automatic transmission.
Making the ride more enjoyable are the lush interiors of the 2008 Mustang. Standard fare can be improved through the Interior Upgrade Package for features that include MyColor instrumentation panel, special aluminum accents on panels and door handles, Ambient Lighting, luxurious seats with leather trims, the 2008 climate control and navigation systems combining GPS technology with DVD mapping. The Shaker 500 Audio System dishes out either soothing soft music or invigorating rock fare from a 6-disc CD and MP3 player or the standard SIRIUS satellite radio. Feel the beat upfront with subwoofers delivering the power.
Underneath all that jazz and pizzazz, the chassis bears the hard work of Ford engineers to ensure the rigid torsion, independent front suspension, 3-link solid-axle rear suspension and rear wheel drive all work seamlessly together for the most comfortable and responsive handling any Mustang can muster.
Ford will not rest until safety balances with comfort, and that safety is most evident in the 2008 Mustang. First off the list is the trade-marked Personal Safety System found on all Mustangs, with its sensor system that helps determine air bags' performance by measuring impact and crash severity vis-à-vis seat positions or occupancy. Front air bags, 3-point safety belts, side air bags for front passengers, anti-lock power disc brakes, and the LATCH anchor and tether system for children, complete the safety package.
Safety and security are further enhanced with the remote keyless entry system, the SecuriLock and Active Anti-Theft Systems. SecuriLock is a trademarked passive anti-theft system that involves ignition key security codes for passive control. The ordinary run-of-the-mill carjacker will not be able to decode the SecuriLock. The Active Anti-Theft System on the other hand features perimeter inclination sensors and interior motion sensors. Intrusion alarms that go on for extended periods courtesy of an extra battery for the purpose, added to the horn system, will not only deafen a thief but definitely drive him away as attention is drawn.

Hydrogen Fuel Cells - Cars Of The Future

Imagine a world where you don't have to pay $3 to drive twenty or thirty miles, where trucks belching diesel smoke are unheard of, where you can walk down the road without inhaling the fumes of a thousand vehicles, where thousands of cars pass you and you hear nothing but a gentle hum and whoosh, and you have an idea of where hydrogen fuel cells will be taking us.
Fuel cells were invented in 1839 by Sir William Grove, who figured out that you could separate hydrogen and oxygen from water through hydrolysis, and suggested that the procedure could be reversed to create clean energy, with a by-product of water. Back then, it was called the gas voltaic battery; only in 1889 did it get the name fuel cell.
How Hydrogen Fuel Cells Work
Like batteries, fuel cells use chemical processes without combustion to create energy with a clean by-product. Because they do not work with the process of combustion, fuel cells never have partly used components, and therefore do not produce poisonous by-products (combustion engines produce carbon monoxide and a wide variety of other poisons, in contrast.)
They are very different from batteries in that they are not self-contained. Instead of counting on an enclosed chemical process that ends when all the components are used up, fuel cells have a constant inward flow of their fuel, usually but not always hydrogen and oxygen. In the case of automobile fuel cells, this means you need a storage tank for water or a hydrocarbon fuel and a place where hydrogen can be separated (this place, called a reformer, has its own technological development problems), as well as an exhaust system that directs used water out of the car or back to the original storage tank.
There are several types of fuel cells right now, but currently the most favored model is the polymer exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). This cell uses precious metals like platinum to create atom-thin layers of oxygen and hydrogen. The hydrogen gas, at this time H2, is split into two protons and two electrons at an anode. The electrons are conducted along a path to do useful work - in this case, run your car - before returning to a cathode where they are recombined with their protons and with oxygen, producing water as a by-product. Right now, the typical fuel cell produces less than a single volt of electricity, so several cells must be piled into a stack in order to produce enough energy to do useful work. Currently, the cost of creating each of these volts is prohibitively high, and technology is focused on making fuel cells more cost effective.
The big problem with the fuel cell is separating water into its constituent components to begin with. Elementary physics dictate that you cannot create or destroy energy, and entropy will cause energy to be lost. In addition, you're using up some of the energy from the fuel cell to run the car. So where does the initial energy to split the water molecules come from?
Currently, instead of using water as a base fuel, we have to use other technologies to produce hydrogen, which is then transferred to the car's storage tank. This is costly, and we have no infrastructure for delivering hydrogen the way we can deliver gasoline. It's also dangerous to handle flammable hydrogen in large quantities; remember the Hindenburg?
Freezing and boiling are also problems. Most forms of fuel cells, including the PEMFC, require water to function properly, but if your fuel cell is frozen or heated above 80 degrees Celsius, it may be destroyed.
Who Is Working On Fuel Cells
Researchers all over the world are working on fuel cell technology; it is potentially a very lucrative field. The United States Department of Energy supports many different fuel cell initiatives with block grants, and it also supports work at its own Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. Most car companies that have a reasonably forward-looking research and development arm are also working to create fuel cells for their own vehicles; this includes companies like Daimler AG, Honda, Ford, and General Motors.
Governments are also becoming increasingly sensitive to the need to have alternative fuel cars. Leading politicians like Newt Gingrich, who is rarely considered a leader in green technology, has spoken out for years about the need for government to support alternative fuel initiatives. Look for this to become the norm in the political future.
When Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars Will Be Available
We currently have several fuel cell cars in production as prototypes, including the DaimlerChrysler Necar, which drove cross country in 2002 from San Francisco to Washington DC. The trip was beautifully successful despite the extremes in temperature the car had to endure. At that time, Chrysler predicted no fuel cell cars would be available commercially before about 2010.
However, the Honda FXC Clarity is scheduled to be available in limited quantities in late summer 2008, leasing for about $600 a month (they will not be available for sale at all, only lease). It will not use gasoline at all, but instead fill up at hydrogen stations; these stations will be available primarily in Southern California at first. Honda is working on developing home fueling stations that will allow you to generate your own hydrogen at home using electricity.

7 Tips On Saving Fuel

Oil price is soaring and it certainly looks like it will not be staying at a constant price for long. I remembered last year around June, the price per litre of Shell 98 was around $1.70 SGD and just recently when I was refilling fuel. It costs about $2.12 SGD per litre; an increase of almost $0.40 SGD per litre. Not to mention that the price is still rising. There are a few alternatives that we can do.
1. To stop driving - for those who have been driving, you will be saying it's crazy! Cars are just like your legs; they carries you around places. However, what we can do is to try walking, cycling or hopping on a bus for short trips.
2. To change to hybrid car - this is one viable option where you can adopt and yet some were saying that it takes much more fuel to produce a hybrid car.
3. To change the way we drive - this is possibly the immediate option that we can adopt. By changing your driving habits you can improve fuel economy and there are many tips which you can use to start saving dollars and not pennies. Changing your habits and you'll see a substantial savings at the pump - without the need for a new car.
Let us look at ways on how we can change our driving habits as well as tips on how we can save fuel. These tips not only help you to save fuel, but also help you to contribute your bit towards saving our planet.
Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated
Keeping the tires at the right pressure not only increase your safety while driving, it also promotes fuel efficiency. The PSI number at the side of your tires shows the maximum pressure of the tire and is not the proper inflation level for your car. Your vehicle manufacturer will list the recommended tire pressure in your owner's manual or a sticker on the doorjamb of the driver-side door. You will notice that if your tires are underinflated, you will experience the extra drag on your car and this translates to more fuel usage.
Follow the Recommended Maintenance
It is important to follow your car manufacturer's servicing recommendations. A vehicle that is well maintained means it will operate with greater efficiency. This not only improves your overall vehicle performance, but it will improve your fuel economy as well. Proper maintenance also means using the right octane gas and the recommended grade of motor oil. A fuel with a higher and inappropriate octane rating does not translate to more power. Using the recommended types for your vehicle will give you optimum fuel economy - and can translate to more saving for you.
Avoid carrying excess weight
Heavier vehicles require more energy to move, so carrying around excess weight will also affect your mileage. Keeping your boot or back seat clear of unnecessary items can reduce weight to your vehicle and increase fuel efficiency.
Drive smoothly
Aggressive driving can use as much as a third more fuel, so avoid accelerating or braking too hard and keep steering smoothly. The fewer heavy brakings and flooring of the accelerator, the more fuel you save. It is important to plan your trip and to avoid the rush when driving. Always give yourself extra time to get to your destination and drive in a "steady and smooth" manner. This not only gets you safely to your destination, it also helps you to save fuel.
Use the Highest Gear Possible
Changing to a higher gear to match the speed of the car is the way to go. Lowest gear yields greatest power but translates to an increase in fuel consumption. To improve your fuel economy, drive in the highest gear possible when you are cruising at a steady speed, such as on the highway.
Use Cruise Control
Using cruise control can improve your gas mileage by helping you maintain a steady speed, but only if you are driving on mostly flat roads. However, if you are in hilly terrain, you should turn off cruise. It will try to keep you up to the speed you've set and will use a lot of extra gas downshifting to lower gears to accomplish this.
Avoid excess idling
When a car is idling, it is using fuel. Turning the engine off during idle periods can help you avoid burning excess fuel. If you are waiting for your kid outside the school or waiting to pick up someone, it is more efficient to turn the engine off while you wait and then restart the car. You will save fuel.
With these tips, you will not only drastically improve your fuel efficiency and saving money but also doing your bit for our planet.

Emergency Supplies Everyone Needs Inside Their Vehicle

This winter I went to a neighboring city for the day. When I left home it was partly sunny and I thought a light sweater would be enough to wear for the day. At the last minute I did take my jacket. In two hours time the weather changed to blizzard conditions. It was snowing, blowing, and the electricity went out. Because of the storm I was a bit concerned and wondered if I would even be able to make it home because of the blizzard. I thought I had every thing in the trunk of my car I would need incase I couldn't make it home through the storm so I felt secure in being prepared, (or so I thought).
I checked the trunk when I got home and found I didn't have any emergency supplies. What a rude awakening for me. I had taken out my organizer with my first aid kit, blanket, emergency kit, everything else I had for emergencies and had never put them back.
This past week I was out of town and my daughter noticed one tire on my car had gone completely flat. I confidently told her to use the' fix a flat can' in the trunk to get my car to the shop to have it repaired. It is an inflator and sealer for tires. It is a foam, very easy to use and will allow you to drive on the tire for several miles until you can get the tire fixed. I had to use this product several years ago and I know it works. What peace of mind such a simple thing gives to me when I am driving in my car. I don't have to have a jack or tools and it seals and inflates in minutes.
No matter that the weather or circumstances it is a good idea to have some basic supplies in our vehicles. That means in very vehicle we or someone else in our family drives.
Here is a list of suggested supplies to keep in our vehicles in case of an emergency:
Booster cables and/or...A 3-in-1 12Volt power station. It includes,
1) an emergency jump start system;
2) a 12 volt DC power supply which is a portable power source for lights, radio, cell phones;
3) long-lasting illumination for roadside emergencies, work areas and camp sites.
Car Jack You may have to use it someday so it is important to know how to use it. (Actually practice changing a tire before an emergency arises).
Spare tire Check it monthly to make sure it is pumped up and in useable condition.
Fix A Flat in a canA first aid kit.Road Flares
There are roadside emergency kits you can buy that are ready to go.
A sleeping bag, blanket. I carried an old quilt in my trunk for years thinking it was warm. We had to put it to the test and found it was not warm at all. Select a blanket to keep you warm. It can also come in handy if you are changing a tire and have to lay down on the ground. A flashlight that works, check to see if it the batteries are good every three months. Water to drink
Sit down and think what you might need in case of a break down or an emergency when you are in your car and make up your own kit for your specific needs.
Keep everything organized in a container that fits your vehicle whether it is in a car trunk, jeep, truck, SUV or mini van. The peace of mind you will have from being prepared is worth its weight in gold.

New Use Of Salvage Car - Body Parts And A Whole Vehicle

Why is it beneficial to buy a salvage car?
You know, buying a salvage car can be very beneficial. If you need to purchase a car very quickly, salvage car auctions are created specially for you. The cars there are to be sold as soon as possible, so the process does not occupy much time. If you desire to save some money, then salvage car sales can also help you in this business (up to 95% off retail value is a very serious bargain). You CAN purchase a repo or salvage car but the question remains: why only a salvage vehicle? There are a lot of sales of new cars. If the question appears in your mind, I'll try to assure that you need to buy just a repo car.
It is very cheap.
As I've already said it is very cheap. If you need to buy the first vehicle for your son, purchasing a used car is the right step here. And, certainly, you can buy a second car for yourself, if feel a necessity for it. You can say that you have one quite nice car and you are not going to purchase another one.
Using salvage car for body parts.
But you know, today you can purchase salvage cars for different uses. And now I'd like to present you something that can be quite useful for you. The crux of the matter is that you can use repo cars not only for the vehicle itself but also for details and body parts for your present vehicle. As you know cars tend to break sometimes and it is rather difficult to find a broken-down detail! Surely, you have an opportunity to come across the missing body part looking at various sales. However, how often you can't find something you really need! What need you to do then? You need your car to be repaired as soon as possible but you can't deal with it without just a small thing. Nevertheless, there is a solution! You can try to buy salvage car body parts. I mean you buy a salvage vehicle and disassemble it for a missing detail. Of course, it is difficult sometimes to find salvage car body parts that will match your car, if you manage to find an appropriate car model, you are the winner! Your broken car will be saved!
